Insight

Lao Café began life as a pop-up in 2015, when co-founder Saiphin Moore set out to bring the flavours of Luang Prabang to London.

Fast-forward to today and Lao Café has a permanent home in Covent Garden — with a growing customer base to match. They needed a simple, cost-effective one page website template to share key info fast: menus, story, location and how to order.

Brand identity

Working with the Lao team, we explored the cultural roots behind their food (and yes, we happily did our “research”).

Drawing on our experience in restaurant branding, we evolved an identity inspired by a traditional Luang Prabang tile motif. We paired the pattern with a crisp sans-serif typeface and a subtle distressed texture to create a nostalgic, vintage feel — modern enough for London, rooted in heritage.

As with all branding projects, we provided clear brand guidelines to help the team keep everything consistent as they grow.

Website design

A one-page WordPress build was the perfect fit. With a tight timescale and limited budget, a single scrolling page gave Lao Café everything they needed — without the bloat of a multi-page site.

The one page website template was designed to deliver at-a-glance essentials: food photography, menus, a short brand story, location, delivery options and social links. Clear, quick, and built for busy customers on mobile.

Website development

With a focused brief, we kept development lean and efficient — while still building the site to be fully responsive across desktop, tablet and mobile.

We also prioritised features that would save time long-term, including an editable menu system for quick updates. The WordPress CMS was tailored to the project, keeping content management streamlined and user-friendly.

To support launch, we delivered WordPress training for the Lao team — and we continue to offer support and maintenance to keep the website running smoothly.

Digital marketing

To round things off, we extended the refreshed Lao Café branding to Instagram — their main marketing channel. With plenty of dishes, specials and behind-the-scenes content to share, we ensured their social presence looked cohesive, confident and unmistakably Lao.

Finally, this project is a good example of how we tailor work to fit real-world budgets — from start-ups like Lao Café to established brands across the food and beverage sector.
